Quick Description
Yes and can be explored by improvising a pair of old friends meeting and sharing memories.
How to Play
In pairs. Imagine you are meeting an old friend. You like each other. For some reason you’ve lost touch. You start talking about the past…good times.
What if you remembered things differently?
Round 1. Go.
Debrief: Did you notice any of the players disagreeing on the shared memory? Some may have been a strong disagreement and others may have been a soft disagreement.
What if you said yes to every memory?
Round 2. Go
Notes
This activity/game benefits from very little framing and few rules. When you add rules often you complicate the process and make the game more mental than instinctual.
Variations
Remember Our Trip To __? Where two freinds reminisce over a long ago trip to another country and the adventures they had together.
Origin
This games (or exercise) comes to us from Dan Klein [Lecturer at Stanford University]. He likes to use this way to teach the value of “yes and..”.
It is a variation of a game by Rafe Chase called Remember Our Trip to…?
